"Design and architecture of embedded systems"

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts promotes intense cooperation between universities and polytechnics.

After a very successful first period again twelve doctoral scholarships are available for the cooperative graduate program "Design and Architecture of Embedded Systems”. Their skills are brought together and used efficiently through the cooperation of the different types of higher education. Qualified graduates from technical colleges will have the possibility to do a doctorate.

Embedded systems are an important success and innovation factor. The annual economic growth rate in this area is impressive. The joint doctoral program at the College of Pforzheim and the University of Tübingen allows master and diploma graduates of colleges and universities to obtain a challenging academic qualifications in this innovative area. The focuses are on design and architecture of embedded systems.

What does this term mean?

Embedded systems are hardware-software systems that make up the heart of many modern products from cars to mechanical engineering to communications technology. These systems perform a variety of control and monitoring tasks largely invisibly. They are the basis for technological development in major key industries and are seen as a strategically important technological field. They represent an important success factor for German industry and are a significant main driver of product innovation. In various studies of BITKOM, McKinsey the strategic importance and the high growth potential is confirmed and proven.

The design and development of embedded systems are extremely complex. A large number of decisions must already be taken into account when the system is designed so that the safety technology in the car runs smoothly.

In the context of a three-year structured program, the Graduate School offers the opportunity to acquire a challenging academic qualifications in this innovative area. This is done in connection with intensive supervision and an accompanying study program.

What is being researched and developed?

  • Model-based design of hardware and software
  • Simulative and analytical modeling and evaluation
  • Automized synthesis
  • Innovative architectures
  • Formal hardware verification
  • Parallelization of algorithms for embedded applications
  • Optimized algorithms of digital signal and image processing
  • Cyber-Physical-Systems and Industry 4.0

The offer is aimed at master and diploma graduates in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, etc. Highly qualified graduates of colleges are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are looking forward to receiving your application!
