Postdoctoral qualification

Professorin vor einem Whiteboard

The habilitation serves to demonstrate the special ability to independently represent a field of scholarship in research and teaching.

Admission to the habilitation process typically follows the completion of a doctoral degree and several years of experience in research and teaching. Upon conferral, the degree confers the right to use the title “Privatdozent*in” if the holder teaches courses in their field amounting to at least two semester hours per week.

A habilitation is not one of the basic requirements for a professorship.
