Would you like to engage in additional (paid) work outside of your professorship? This opportunity is available to you in the form of what is known as “secondary employment.”
Secondary employment is generally carried out during free time and, for professors, may not exceed the scope of an average workday per week (approx. 10 hours). Furthermore, depending on the nature and scope of the secondary employment, it must be reported or approved prior to commencement. Approval is granted provided there are no grounds for refusal. Such grounds would exist, for example, if the specific secondary employment could hinder the performance of official duties or lead to a conflict of interest.
The legal basis for the law governing secondary employment is the State Civil Service Act (LBG), the State Regulation on Secondary Employment (LNTVO), and the University Regulation on Secondary Employment (HNTVO).
