Since 2008, Kerstin Bremser has been Professor of International Business at the Pforzheim University of Technology, specialising in the Spanish-speaking realm. After completing training in industrial management and studying European Management at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, including an externship in Barcelona, Spain, Ms. Bremser began her professional career in the department of strategic management consulting at the Frankfurt offices of McKinsey & Company. In 2000, she moved to internal management consultancy at Degussa AG in Frankfurt. At the same time, she commenced her doctoral studies at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland. Her doctoral dissertation was on the topic “The Impact of the Mercosur [South America’s trading alliance] on the Chemical Industry in 2004”.
By September 2003, she was also working professionally in Switzerland.
Since her appointment to the Pforzheim Institute of Applied Sciences, Kerstin Bremser has been involved in teaching and research related to strategic issues in the tourism industry and cultural difference between Europe and South America. She regularly serves as guest lecturer at various Spanish-speaking universities (Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru; ESAN University, Lima, Peru). Kerstin Bremser speaks fluent German, English, Spanish, and French, and has advanced knowledge of Portuguese as well.

Together with her colleagues at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Kerstin Bremser studied the influence of economic crises on companies in the tourism sector. Kerstin Bremser investigated how Spanish companies prepared for the economic crisis and which strategies promise to be successful. Some of the lessons learnt can be applied to other crises that companies are facing, i.e. those caused by terrorist attacks.

To work in international companies young people must become attuned to intercultural differences. The most important prerequisite for learning these differences is the opportunity for intercultural encounter, though such opportunities are rare given their costs. In bringing intercultural encounter to the classroom, Kerstin Bremser develops teaching methods that rely on new technologies (chat, video conference).

Recently, her research interests have switched to the new phenomenon of collaborative consumption and the emerging sharing economy.
