On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, as part of Professor Dr. Svenja Buckstegge's inaugural lecture on legal design, this year's awards for excellent teaching and practice were presented. The event was all about commitment and appreciation for outstanding achievements.

The Faculty's Teaching Award went to the BNRE/MLICS team. Instead of an individual, this year an entire team was honored for its impressive range of activities in the field of sustainability. Laudator Professor Dr. Jürgen Volkert praised the innovative events such as the “Sustainability and Resource Efficiency” symposium, the close collaboration with alumni, a substantial body of impactful scientific publications and ongoing research activity. The team makes an invaluable contribution to the university and society - because sustainability is more important than ever. To prevent massive damage, the next five years will be crucial. In addition, Volkert praised the team spirit of the sustainability team and its ability to inspire students to engage with complex issues and questions in the field of sustainability. The conclusion: “Everything’s great - it fits perfectly!”

The Faculty's Practice Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Kerstin Schweizer, who is at university since 2005. The professors Dr. Simone Harriehausen and Dr. Babara Lorinser highlighted their colleague’s sharp mind and outstanding achievements. The award winner is distinguished by her forward-thinking perspective and her willingness to engage with unfamiliar and complex topics without hesitation. While others are still hesitating, she has already implemented the first pilot projects. With her focus on “Digitalization and Law,” “Legal Tech,” and “Legal Design,” Prof. Dr. Kerstin Schweizer is regarded as the driving force behind her team. For her outstanding commitment, she was rightly honored by her students with the Practice Award. In her acceptance speech, she emphasized her high standards: “I expect the best from my students - so I must hold myself to the same standard. Even at 50, there is no comfort zone for me.”

Congratulations to all the award winners! We thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment, which makes our faculty so vibrant.
