Sascha Wolf

Sascha Wolf is Professor of Economics at Pforzheim University. Since March 2021, he is head of the Master’s program Strategic Innovation Management. Between 2011 and 2014 he held the position of managing director of the German Federal Association of Managed Care (BMC). The BMC is a pluralistic association in the healthcare sector. During this period, he developed numerous reform concepts on health policy, which he presented and discussed with top politicians, as an expert during public hearings in the German parliament, at international conferences, and in numerous publications.
Prior to joining the BMC, he worked for the Economic Council of the Christian Democratic Union, where, between 2007 and 2011, he was responsible for healthcare policy, care, pensions, market economy, and ethics. Between 2009 till 2011 he took on the role as a deputy managing director and was jointly responsible for the substantive work of all ten socio-political and economics departments.
Sascha Wolf started his career 2003 as a research assistant at the Market Economy Foundation, where his research focused on labor economics, health economics and European policy. In 2004 he took up the position of a research assistant at the Department of Public Finance at the Humboldt University Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 2008.
For more than 20 years, the research work of Sascha Wolf has focused on the healthcare system. Initially, he concentrated on the political-economic aspects and analyzed the political decision making process and the complex network of diverging interests. This approach was also pursued in his doctoral thesis, which examined the relationship between politics and interest groups in the German pharmaceutical sector. During his time at the Market Economy Foundation and at the Economic Council of the Christian Democratic Union, he was involved in the development of alternative reform models aiming to readjusting the Statutory Health Insurance’s financial base. With his move to the Bundesverband Managed Care e.V. (Federal Association of Managed Care), his research focus shifted to medical provision, i. e. the optimization of health care structures, quality and performance-oriented remuneration systems, as well as the improvement of investment capacity and the ability to innovate. Sascha Wolf has always placed special emphasis on looking beyond national borders. He has repeatedly organized international fact finding missions with experts from different areas of the healthcare sector. On behalf of the Federal Association of Managed Care he was also part of an EU project to develop a chronic care model for diabetes patients. Recently he is increasingly interested in ethic and cultural topics of health policy.
