Kerstin Bremser has been Professor of International Business at the Pforzheim University since 2008, specializing in the Spanish-speaking realm. From 2012 to 2020, she headed the bachelor’s degree program in International Business. In 2021, she took over the academic management of the International Office. After completing her studies of European Management at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg she began her professional career in the department of strategic management consulting at McKinsey & Company in Frankfurt. As of 2000, she worked at the internal management consultancy of Degussa AG, Frankfurt. At the same time, she commenced her doctoral studies at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland. She wrote her doctoral thesis on “The Impact of the Mercosur (South America’s trading alliance) on the Chemical Industry in 2004”. In September 2003, Kerstin Bremser moved to Switzerland to work as a Key Account Manager for the Spanish business of Polypag AG, a mid-sized manufacturer of construction chemicals. Soon after, she was promoted to Assistant Sales Manager. Since her appointment at Pforzheim University, Kerstin Bremser has been involved in teaching and research related to strategic issues in the tourism industry and cultural difference between Europe and South America. She regularly serves as a guest lecturer at various Spanish-speaking universities (Universidad Autónoma, Madrid, Spain; Universidad da Coruna, Spain; Universidad del Pacífico, Lima, Peru). Kerstin Bremser speaks fluent German, English, Spanish, and French, and has advanced knowledge of Portuguese.
Kerstin Bremser, as part of international teams, regularly publishes in high-ranking journals in the field of tourism, e. g. the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Services Industries and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, for which she also serves as a reviewer. In 2016, she was awarded the Emerald Literati Best Paper Award. From 2017 to 2018, she was a member of the Intertalentum Scientific Advisory Board of the UAM, Madrid/Spain, for the selection of Marie-Curie PhD projects in the field of social sciences.

Kerstin Bremser works in international teams on the influence of economic crises on companies in the tourism sector, where she researches the area of crisis management in the context of economic and health crises. The 2008 financial crisis hit Spain hard and changed consumer spending. Tourism is one of Spain’s most important economic sectors. A variety of studies have shown that crisis management is essential for companies. It is crucial that they adapt and prepare for crises in advance — even less frequent ones such as natural disasters, epidemics, terrorist attacks and economic crises — if they want to weather the storm. In her work, Kerstin Bremser investigates how Spanish companies prepare and adapt to the economic crisis and which strategies promise to be successful.
A new focus of her research is in the area of health risks (SARS, Covid-19, toxic jellyfish) and their impact on the affected tourism regions, as well as the travel behavior of different tourists. In addition, Kerstin Bremser deals intensively with other manifestations of tourism such as overtourism or sustainable forms of travel such as the Airbnb booking platform. Another area of expertise is intercultural studies, in particular the differences between Spanish-speaking countries in South America and Europe.
