The exhibition "Just aim, focus and shoot" shows works by our students Johanna Gilbert, Amelie Heckel and Momo Jarad. Curated by Prof. Dr. Silke Helmerdig.

"Just aim, focus and shoot", Susan Sontag quotes a Pentax camera advertisement in an essay from her well-known book On Photography. It is no coincidence that the choice of words used is similar to the description of gun use. In his 1966 film "If I had four dromedaries", Chris Marker already pointed out the similarity between handling a firearm and an optical device: "Photography is like hunting. The hunting instinct without the desire to kill. An angel hunt. You follow, you aim and you shoot: Click! Instead of killing a man, you make him immortal." In their works, Johanna Gilbert, Amelie Heckel and Momo Jarad search for ways of responsible coexistence against an ideology of power over and with images that is attached to the camera.

Vernissage on Friday, January 16 at 8 pm
