Interview with MMI alumna Selin Erkovan

News

After graduating with a Master's degree in Marketing Intelligence in 2020, Selin Erkovan's passion for the beauty industry led her to L'Oréal's DACH headquarters in Düsseldorf, where she began as a management trainee. She was able to fully utilize her enthusiasm for e-commerce and marketing during various placements in e-key account management, e-activation management, and product marketing. She then took on responsibility for e-commerce content management in the Luxe Division. Currently, Selin Erkovan is a product manager for the Lancôme fragrance category. "What continues to inspire me is the unique spirit at L'Oréal: creativity, agility, and a strong team spirit with which we bring brand experiences to life," she says.

My most valuable professional experience was...
...the trainee program in the Luxe Division at L'Oréal. The opportunity to rotate through several job roles in Sales, Activation, and Marketing within a single year was incredibly valuable. I not only gained comprehensive knowledge of our brands and processes, but also made important contacts and built a network that continues to benefit me today.

When I'm not working, I'm…
…exploring! Whether it's discovering new cafes and restaurants with friends, dancing at concerts, or traveling the world – I love combining all of these!

What was particularly exciting about the degree program?
What made my Master's program special were the practical projects. They were not only exciting and educational, but also a lot of fun! I was able to gain such valuable experience that I could later apply in my career. Through the projects, I learned relevant tools and practical skills that have really helped me.

My advice for students:
Use your time at university to explore different things! Gain practical experience to discover your passion and acquire broad knowledge. Also: If you have the opportunity, spend time abroad, let yourself be inspired by new experiences, and discover new perspectives.
