Eight outfits made from felted wool that show how sustainable, innovative and attractive the raw material can be: Julia Judenhahn, a graduate of Pforzheim University's Bachelor's degree course in Fashion, has now won two awards for this project. The International Design Awards (IDA) awarded her gold in the Other Fashion Design / Recycled/Sustainable Fashion category. She also received the Silver Award from Creative Conscience in the Fashion and Textiles category.

Focus on felting

In her final collection "puregrid", Judenhahn explored how the material wool can be used innovatively. From the fiber to the finished garment, Judenhahn carried out all the production steps herself. Spinning, weaving and sewing became one production step – the felting.

Inspired by the artists Agnes Martin and Anni Albers, Judenhahn analyzes the interplay of reduction, aesthetics and grid structures. The result is eight outfits that evoke calm, freedom and clarity. The basis is the grid: "puregrid" shows how it can be used as a system of order in visual design and fashion.

Fashion that is circular

With her work, Judenhahn wants to make the natural material wool attractive again so that people can dress in a modern and sustainable way. Wool is not only a natural, circular raw material. The way it is processed – felting – also follows the zero-waste logic: "puregrid" creates patterns that leave no textile waste behind.

Julia Judenhahn on the awards: "The competitions reinforce my belief that sustainability and minimalism are an important field in fashion and encourage me to continue developing this approach. My collection lives from the self-determined process – from the fiber to the finished outfit – and reflects my claim to environmentally conscious design. I want to create clothes that are not only beautiful, but also durable, repairable, produced with low energy consumption and whose simplicity sets an example against disposable fashion."
