Pforzheim University congratulates Gulshan Kumar Mandal on being awarded the Research Excellence Award 2025 in the Student Category. His outstanding research project titled “AI BPMN Generator” was recognized as part of his bachelor’s studies in the Digital Enterprise Management program, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Frank Morelli.

With the AI BPMN Generator, Gulshan Mandal has addressed a core issue in business process modeling: the significant effort and complexity involved in using many conventional modeling tools. His system transforms natural language descriptions into executable BPMN 2.0 XML diagrams within seconds, enabling fast and intuitive digitalization of processes—even for users without technical backgrounds.

The key innovation lies in his self-developed method of AI Syntax Mapping. This technique requires only a small data base yet generates precise and visually representable process models. Compared to established tools such as ARIS, Flowable, or Signavio, Mandal’s solution offers a highly accessible alternative, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The practical impact is already evident: a company in Baden-Württemberg is successfully using the generator in production. In addition, Mandal is working on further extensions—such as integrating RPA syntax, UML diagrams, or voice-controlled assistant systems.

This award recognizes not only an exceptional individual achievement but also the dedication and spirit of innovation with which Gulshan Mandal combines research, education, and entrepreneurship. He has previously been honored for his startup ideas, including at the Elevator Pitch Start-up BW.

Gulshan Mandal is currently writing his bachelor thesis, which also focuses on intelligent automation as the core of his research.
