Teaching and staff mobility - Erasmus+

Erasmus supports visiting lectureships at European partner universities (STA) that hold an Erasmus University Charter. The guest lecturers are to strengthen the European dimension of the host university through their stay, complement its teaching offer and impart their expertise to those students who cannot or do not wish to study abroad.

As a further supporting measure for the internationalization of higher education institutions, continuing and further training measures (STT) of university staff (teaching and administration) at European universities are possible.

The program supports mobilities for teaching purposes (STA), i.e. teaching projects at partner universities in other European countries (so-called Erasmus+ Program Countries).

Eligible within this line are teaching activities of full-time and part-time teaching staff. This includes, for example:

  • Professors
  • Research assistants and associates
  • Emeriti

Mobility for teaching purposes
Erasmus+ supports guest lectureships at European partner universities that have a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). Guest lecturers should strengthen the European dimension of the host university through their stay, complement its teaching offer and impart their expertise to students who do not want to or cannot study abroad. If possible, the development of joint study programs between the partner universities should play a role, as should the exchange of teaching content and methods.
Staff from foreign companies and organizations can also be invited to German universities for teaching purposes.

Requirements

  • Stays of at least two days (excluding arrival and departure days) and up to one week in duration (longer mobilities only in justified exceptional cases).
  • Stays of at least 8 hours for the first 7 days. From the eighth day on, 1.6 hours per additional day of the stay will be added to the minimum teaching scope.

Mobility for training purposes

One of the program lines of Erasmus+ is the mobility for training purposes (STT), also called "staff mobility".

This activity supports the professional development of HEI members through training activities (language courses, workshops and seminars) abroad (excluding conferences) and through job shadowing at
(a) a partner university in the ERASMUS area or
(b) at another institution located in the ERASMUS area that is active in the labor market or in the fields of education, training or youth.

Eligible within this line are full-time and part-time university members whose employment relationship with the sending university is one year or longer. These may be from any area of work within the university, such as:

    General and technical administration
    Library
    Departments
    Finance
    Research
    Teaching
    Public Relations
    Student advisory service
    Technology and Transfer
    Continuing education

Funding conditions:

Stays for further education and training purposes at foreign partner universities in participating Erasmus countries (program countries); in addition to all EU countries, these include Turkey, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Macedonia (FYROM).

Important: If the member of the university to be supported has his or her residence abroad, funding to that country is excluded!

Stays at institutions located in participating Erasmus countries (program countries) that are active in the labor market or in the fields of education, training or youth.
Stys of at least two days (excluding arrival and departure days) and up to one week in duration (longer mobilities only in justified exceptional cases).
The duration of the stay is confirmed by a confirmation issued by the host university or institution during the mobility.

The Erasmus funding
The financial support of Erasmus mobilities for teaching or training purposes is based on the different costs of living in the destination countries ("program countries"). Uniform daily rates apply for funding by German universities. The current funding rates can be found here.
