Business Administration and Engineering

Application and Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Applicants are able to enroll for the study program if they have gained one of the following qualifications:

  • Allgemeine Hochschulreife (general high school diploma)

  • Fachgebundene Hochschulreife (all forms) (vocational high school diploma) or

  • Fachhochschulreife (diploma to gain entry to a university of applied sciences)

Students are required to complete an eight-week pre-internship before commencement of studies, or at the latest before the commencement of their 3rd semester. Applicants who have relevant practical experience (e.g.graduates from a technical high school or applicants who have completed a corresponding apprenticeship or have relevant job experience) can be exempted from doing the pre-internship.

Enrollment for the Bachelor study programs takes place twice a year. The lectures for the summer semester begin in the middle of March, and at the beginning of October for the winter semester. Good English language skills are essential.

Selection Process

Admission for hardship cases, foreign students and second degree students are standard.  The rest of the places are allocated as follows:

  • 10% after a qualifying period

  • 90% according to the university admissions procedure

The Business Administration and Engineering study programs have the following university selection process:

  • Grade point average of the candidate’s High School Diploma (75%)

  • Results of the selection interview (25%)

The result of these two grades will be combined.

Please note: applicants’ participation in the selection interview is optional and can only have a positive effect on the admission grade.

Admission Procedure

Applicants are required to submit their application in writing. Application forms can be obtained from the Academic Registry and from the information kiosk of the University or can be downloaded online.

The application forms can be sent to the University from October for summer semester applications and from April for winter semester applications. Admission documents can be processed more quickly in the case of early application. Documents not provided at application, which are not necessarily required, (e.g. proof of the eight-week pre-internship) can be handed in when requested by the University.

Pforzheim University does not have waiting lists, therefore applications can only be accepted for the following semester. Application documents should only be submitted by applicants if they are able to commence their studies (with the exception of those who are required to complete official duties).

Currently there are admission restrictions in all Bachelor study programs. It is not possible to provide information of entry grades required as this is only determined each semester according to the number of applicants and their grade point average.

The admissions and rejections will be sent out approximately two to three weeks after application deadline.  Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any information by telephone.

Is it possible to apply without participating in the selection interview?

It is possible to apply without participating in the selection interview. The result of the selection interview is only taken into account if it is better than the grade point average from the university admissions procedure. If the result is lower, then the university admissions grade point average is counted 100%.

Application deadline:

  • 15 January for applications for the summer semester

  • 15 July for applications for the winter semester

The application deadlines for the selection interview are as follows:

  • 15 November for applications for the summer semester

  • 15 May for applications for the winter semester
