Thilo Klein ist Professor für Quantitative Wirtschaftsforschung an der Pforzheim Business School und Senior Economist im ZEW-Forschungsbereich Marktdesign, wo er den Bereich Design von Matching-Märkten verantwortet. Er forscht zu Marktdesign, Matching-Theorie und empirischen Methoden mit Fokus auf algorithmenbasierte Platz- und Ressourcenvergabe. Er veröffentlichte in Games and Economic Behavior sowie im Journal of Mechanism and Institution Design und ist Mitglied im Promotionsverband Baden-Württemberg. Seine Projekte wurden durch DAAD, ESRC, die Leibniz-Gemeinschaft, die Bertelsmann Stiftung sowie die Bundesministerien für Landwirtschaft (BMLEH) und Wirtschaft (BMWE) gefördert.

Er ist Mitgründer der MatchingTools GmbH, die Forschung zu Allokationsmechanismen in Softwarelösungen überführt und für den Leibniz-Gründungspreis nominiert war. Vor seiner Professur war er u.a. bei der OECD in Paris und der Internationalen Arbeitsorganisation (ILO) in Genf tätig. Er studierte Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Mathematik an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena und promovierte in Business Economics an der University of Cambridge.
