Tobias Brönneke is Professor of Business Law. He concentrates on public economic law, IT law and consumer protection law. After studying law at the University of Göttingen (first state exam) and at the law school of the Complutense University of Madrid, he clerked at the Regional Appeal Court of Celle, where he passed his second state examination, earning the Assessor juris degree. He then worked as an attorney in Hildesheim, and between 1997 and 2001 he was a legal consultant and lawyer for the
study group of Bonn Consumer Groups. In 1998 he earned a doctoral degree in law. He has been Professor of Business Law at Pforzheim University since 2001.

Tobias Brönneke currently focuses on German and European consumer protection laws and information law. His reports on consumer and data privacy laws – written alone and in collaboration e.g. with Karlheinz Fezer (University of Konstanz) or with Andreas Oehler (University of Bamberg) – have
frequently influenced the drafting of legislation. One prominent example is the »button solution«, which can all but eliminate the problems associated with Internet contract traps. He is regularly invited to serve as an expert on consumer and IT law by national and EU-level legislative organs. Several of his proposals have been adopted by industry, including Trusted Shops, the leading seal of approval for online retailers.
Tobias Brönneke is particularly passionate about supporting young researchers. Many of the papers and dissertations he has supervised have received awards and have appeared in well-known publishing houses – e.g. Steffen Kroschwald’s work on the privatisation of communal claims management, Ralf Mohrhauser’s book on distance selling and Isabell Schultze’s examination of the EU limits of national legislation. He initiated a collaborative project with the University of Kassel, which gives students of Pforzheim Business School the opportunity to earn a doctoral degree in
law or political science after graduation. Graduates can also use contacts for doctoral degree programs at the University of Münster.
As head of the Legal Department of Pforzheim University, Tobias Brönneke has shaped university by-laws on admissions and examinations and has helped advance administrative practice in examination regulations for universities of applied sciences in the German state of Baden-Württemberg.
