Pforzheim University Recognized as Celonis Academic Center of Excellence for the Third Time
News

On October 30, 2024, Pforzheim University was recognized for the third consecutive time as a Celonis Academic Center of Excellence. This prestigious global award is presented by Celonis, the market leader in Process Mining and Execution Management, to select universities that demonstrate excellence in teaching, practice-oriented research, and active community engagement.
With over 1,300 students enrolled annually in process mining courses, nine bachelor’s and master’s level modules, and various hands-on projects, Pforzheim University ranks among Celonis’ top academic partners in Europe. Courses in data analytics, supply chain intelligence, business process management, and IT-supported optimization allow students to use state-of-the-art platforms like Celonis to analyze real-world business processes.
In addition to integrating process mining into its curriculum, the university also engages in international collaborations, such as with Symbiosis University (SCIT) in Pune, India. The institutions have already completed several joint capstone projects, where students from both locations analyzed business processes under real-life conditions and developed optimization proposals. A recent highlight was the “Woodcorp” case study, which involved over 100 students working together across borders.
Process mining is also used internally at the university:“Process mining is furthermore employed to analyze the as-is situation in several processes of our university, e.g., for the recruitment and onboarding process,” explains Prof. Dr. Frank Morelli, who has played a key role in establishing this area of focus at Pforzheim.
In its annual guidebook, Celonis highlights that Pforzheim not only impresses with its above-average student participation, but also through its unique blend of research, practical relevance, and internationality. The award reflects a long-standing partnership with the Celonis Academic Alliance, which now collaborates with over 1,500 universities worldwide.
With this renewed recognition, Pforzheim University joins an exclusive group of only 15 institutions worldwide to receive this status in 2024/25 — including renowned names such as RWTH Aachen, University of Münster, Concordia University (Canada), and NOVA IMS (Portugal).
Special thanks go to the faculty and staff of the Business and Law School, who have continuously advanced and integrated process mining into teaching, research, and innovation since 2019.
