Pforzheim University at ICPM 2025 in Montevideo - Process Intelligence as the operating system of the future

News

From October 20 to 24, 2025, the 7th International Conference on Process Mining (ICPM) took place in Montevideo (Uruguay) - the world's leading scientific conference in the field of process mining. This year's edition was organized by the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) and brought together leading researchers, company representatives and students from all over the world.

Pforzheim University was represented by Prof. Dr. Frank Morelli and Prof. Dr. Rebecca Bulander. Both took part in central sessions and learned about the latest developments at the interfaces of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Process Intelligence (PI).

The industry keynote by Rudy Kuhn, Process Evangelist at Celonis, entitled "PI & AI - Unlocking the Future of Business" was particularly impressive. Kuhn showed how the combination of process intelligence and artificial intelligence enables companies to evolve from purely data-based decisions to autonomous business processes. In his accompanying LinkedIn post, Kuhn impressively summarized his message:

"Process Intelligence is not just a discipline - it's becoming the operating system of the Future Enterprise."

The research keynote by Prof. Claudia Bauzer Medeiros (Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Brazil) also provided new impetus. Under the title "It's all about the logs - the FAIR, the bad and the ugly", she addressed how the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) can be adapted for scientific openness and data quality in process mining.

The workshops also revealed exciting developments in the integration of process mining in teaching and research. The workshop EduPM - International Workshop on Education meets Process Mining was particularly relevant for Pforzheim University, where Angela Gebert (Celonis Academic Alliance) presented new concepts for teaching formats in the university context - a topic that is directly linked to the activities of the Business School.

Prof. Dr. Frank Morelli emphasized that, in addition to the presentations, the discussions with Celonis and SAP about future developments were particularly informative. He also emphasized that the collaboration with Celonis and the international partners will provide new impetus for research and teaching - for example in the area of capstone projects or the integration of AI-based process foundation models.

"ICPM 2025 revealed how the synergy of Artificial Intelligence and Process Intelligence will transform process transparency into adaptive intelligence, redefining the future of operational excellence."
Prof. Dr. Frank Morelli, Pforzheim University

Pforzheim University's participation in ICPM 2025 once again underlines its strong international network and the growing importance of process mining and process intelligence in research, teaching and practical projects. It complements the university's continuous development as a Celonis Academic Center of Excellence and strengthens its position as a pioneer in the field of process intelligence education.
