Guest in Classroom #1: Lydia Michael, Owner of Blended Collective and Author of Brand Love

News

Hochschule Pforzheim recently welcomed Lydia Michael, owner of Blended Collective, a marketing and brand consultancy, and author of “Brand Love – Building Strong Consumer-Brand Connections” as a guest speaker in this semester´s the first “Guest in Classroom” session. An alumna of the university, Lydia returned to share her insights and experiences about her MBA studies, her Beta Gamma Sigma leadership, and cultural learnings with current students and the faculty.
Lydia, an award-winning entrepreneur, speaker, and marketing and brand strategist captivated the audience with her engaging presentation on the importance of culture and emotional brand building. She emphasized the need for brands to connect with consumers on a deeper level, fostering long-lasting relationships that go beyond mere transactions.
Lydia emphasized how the MBA program at Pforzheim University prepared her for an international career. While the multicultural program allows students to connect with people from all over the world, the location of Pforzheim University allows its students to travel easily all over Europe. Besides this, she mentioned how her exposure to many different cultures from a very young age shaped her cultural values and how she can leverage and implement all of it at her work with Blended Collective.
Lydia emphasized the fact how public speaking has played a pivotal role in both her personal and professional life. Joining Beta Gamma Sigma first in Detroit during her Bachelor studies and then in Germany, helped her expand her network in the US. So much that she went on to create the first alumni chapter in the state of Michigan and 32nd alumni chapter globally at Beta Gamma Sigma for the organization and serving as President for four years.
During her talk, Lydia introduced the concept of Ikigai, a Japanese term that means "a reason for being." She explained how finding one's passion, mission, vocation, and profession can lead to fulfillment in both the personal and professional life. This holistic approach to career development encourages individuals to align their work with their true passions, leading to greater satisfaction and success.
After the session, the MBA students were left with a deeper understanding of how to create meaningful (brand) experiences and optimally apply emotional elements and culture with business. Lydia Michael’s visit was a reminder of the power of passion, culture and emotional connection in the world of marketing. Her mantra “When you show up, things happen” continues to resonate deeply with the students and could be a guiding light for anyone navigating the complexities of personal and professional life. A big THANK YOU to Lydia for being our “Guest in Classroom” and sharing her journey and insights with our MBA students.
