Ute Marx ist Professorin für Medizintechnik an der Hochschule Pforzheim. Der Schwerpunkt ihrer Lehrtätigkeit liegt auf den Fächern Technischer Vertrieb, Kundenkommunikation, Marketing und Produktmanagement, sowie naturwissenschaftlichen Fächern wie Molekulare Biophysik, Labordiagnostik und Metabonomics. Ihre Forschungstätigkeiten befassen sich unter anderem mit der Fragestellung, wie Stoffwechselprodukte in Körperflüssigkeiten Aufschluss über Krankheitsverläufe und Therapieerfolg geben können. Hierbei bedient sie sich der Methode „Metabonomics mittels NMR-Spektroskopie“, einem Forschungsgebiet auf dem sie jahrelange Erfahrung hat und international anerkannt ist. Diese Methode wendet sie auch auf einen weiteren Forschungsschwerpunkt, nämlich erneuerbare Energien aus Algenbiomasse, an.

Ziel ihrer aktuellen Forschung ist es, Algen-Biotechnologie-Systeme der Anwendungsreife näher zu bringen. So konnte sie mit Hilfe einer detaillierten Techno-Economic and Life Cycle Analysis zeigen, dass die Ernte von Algenblüten aus dem Meer mit Verarbeitung zu Bio-Rohöl und anschließend zu erneuerbarem Diesel wirtschaftlich ist.

Darüber hinaus befasst sich Ute Marx immer wieder mit der Digitalisierung in Medizin, Medizintechnik und im Gesundheitswesen sowie mit Szenarien zum Gesundheitswesen der Zukunft.

Ute Marx hat Chemie studiert und 2003 im Fach Biophysikalische Chemie habilitiert. Nach einem 4-jährigen Auslandsaufenthalt an der University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australien, war sie mehrere Jahre bei der Firma Bruker BioSpin im Vertrieb tätig. Während dieser Zeit hat sie ein berufsbegleitendes MBA-Studium mit dem Schwerpunkt Industriemarketing und Technischer Vertrieb absolviert. Seit 2015 hat sie die Professur für Medizintechnik/Technischer Vertrieb an der Fakultät für Technik inne.
