Guest lecture on the subject of IT and ethics

This information age has raised many new ethical questions. In the face of changes in social structure which the internet and new net-based technologies have brought with them, the question has arisen whether traditional ethical operational principles can be transferred to today’s digital society without any difficulties.

In his guest lecture to industrial engineering students Prof Karsten Boye Rasmussen from the University of Southern Denmark dealt with the question of the need for ethical principles in this information technology age. He shared his thoughts on the protection of the private sphere, the misuse of data as well as on the question of the changes in conditions for copyright law and intellectual property. In addition, he made the budding industrial engineers aware of the challenges which this information age has brought with it with regard to ethical operations. “A fascinating lecture on a hot topic, which has given us much food for thought”, pronounced one industrial engineering student on the guest lecture by the Danish Professor, whose visit was funded by the ERASMUS program of the EU.

Professor Rasmussen is Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark. He teaches and researches “Strategic Organizational Design” within the department of Marketing and Management. The focus of his research work is on how small and medium-sized enterprises are able to efficiently use information technology particularly with regard to virtual company mergers.
