Ethics Program

Goals and Concept

Which goals does the Ethics Program of Pforzheim University aim at?
An increasing variety of values, the necessity of a stronger cooperation in interdisciplinary teams and globalization characterize modern societies more and more. For graduates this pronounced diversity of values stands for new chances and challenges at the same time. Problems in communication arise more often due to different values in the cultures, but even with colleagues of other disciplines and even with colleagues of the same discipline. Optimal results in personal and professional acting do not only demand creative, technical and economic knowledge. In fact the skills to understand different values and to solve conflicts about values are demanded in order to reach sound decisions and to communicate them understandably.

The goals of the Ethics-Program of Pforzheim University are therefore:

  • To understand the different norms and values in modern societies ("To look beyond one`s own nose").
  • To impart knowledge about the function of morale in different cultures and systems of society.
  • To convey methods, contents and instruments, which allow for a systematic understanding of different value basics (e.g. ethics- code, corporate culture, ethics commission, etc.).
  • To develop knowledge about culture and to be able to communicate understandably and in a fair way decisions and agreements with third parties (e.g. with suppliers, clients, citizens ‘groups, environment and globalization groups)
