MBA IM: Company Visit to the juwi Holding AG

The MBA-IM students visited juwi Holding AG, one of the world’s leading companies in the renewable energy sector. Prof. Dr. Kai Saldsieder, responsible for company contacts in the MBA-IM, arranged the visit to the company situated in Wörrstadt.

Peter Glasstetter of the Corporate Communications Department presented the company’s facts and figures and answered the numerous questions of the MBA students. After that there was a guided tour to (and inside) the wind turbines on the fields and to the solar park with its photovoltaic systems. The students also got an insight into the buildings and their energy-saving technologies. The headquarters of juwi is the most energy efficient office building in the world for which they were presented with the Clean Tech Media Award in 2009. So not only the location in the green meadows proved the green conviction of the company!

Since 1996, juwi has been developing, planning, financing and operating plants and systems that use regenerative energies – wind, solar and bio energy. They have successfully completed a large number of projects around the world, e.g. in Costa Rica, the USA, Spain etc. Moreover, juwi supports the development of electric transportation and converts its fleet into electric vehicles: the car park provides charging stations that run with solar energy so that the employees can recharge their electric cars while being at work. The annual CO2 savings that result only from the use of wind power are more than 850.000 tonnes annually.
Juwi employs approximately 1000 people by now – in the year 2000 they had only 30 employees.

In the afternoon, the group went to Worms and became familiar with the vast history of one of the oldest cities in Germany. During the guided city tour they learned about the history of the cathedral, about Martin Luther and visited the Jewish cemetery with its more than one thousand years old tomb stones.
